Combine yeast, warm milk, and 1 teaspoon of sugar and wait 10 minutes for it to foam up.

Stir in the egg, melted butter, salt, the rest of the sugar, and 2 cups of the flour. Gradually add the last cup of flour until combined.

Work the dough on medium speed for 5 minutes until it’s stretchy and smooth.

Move dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover with cling film, and leave it until it doubles in size.

Roll the dough to about ½ inch thick and use a 3-inch cutter for the donuts, plus a smaller one for holes.

Let your donut shapes rest for 30 minutes to puff up nicely.

Spray donuts with oil and cook at 350°F for 4 minutes until golden brown.

Melt butter, mix in vanilla and powdered sugar, then thin it out with hot water.
