Pop the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for about 10 to 20 seconds—just enough to start softening. Stir in both sugars and mix until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla, beating for half a minute. Fold in the flour, salt, baking soda, and chocolate chips until it becomes dough.

Toss the dough in the fridge for anywhere from 30 minutes to overnight. This isn't necessary, but it helps the cookies keep their shape.

Cover the racks of your air fryer with parchment paper. Using a scoop or spoon, form 2-tablespoon-sized dough balls and space them about 1.5 inches apart in the basket. Fit as many as your air fryer allows—usually between 2 and 4.

Set the air fryer to 325°F and bake for 5 to 7 minutes until the cookies turn a lovely golden color. Let the cookies sit in the fryer a few minutes before taking them out.
