Jolly Rancher Apples (Print Version)

Fresh apples are covered in a glossy layer of melted Jolly Rancher candy, creating a simple and bold sweet-tart delight.

# Ingredients:

→ Candy Apples

01 - 6 average-sized apples (try Fuji, Granny Smith, or Honeycrisp)
02 - 2-3 packets of Jolly Ranchers (pick one flavor or mix them)
03 - A splash of water, about 1-2 tablespoons
04 - Skewers made of wood or popsicle sticks

→ Optional Decorations

05 - Edible glitter for a shiny effect
06 - Some melted chocolate you can drizzle
07 - Sprinkles in bright colors

# Steps:

01 - Clean the apples and make sure they’re completely dry. Take off the stems, then carefully push a skewer or popsicle stick into the top of the apple till it feels secure.
02 - Cover a baking tray with either parchment paper or a silicone mat. You’ll need enough room in your fridge or somewhere cool to let the apples harden.
03 - Unwrap the Jolly Ranchers, and if you want different colors, you can separate them by flavor. Put the candies into a saucepan with a tablespoon of water. Heat on low to medium heat, stirring now and then, until they’re totally melted. Be careful not to overheat or scorch the candy.
04 - Another option is to use the microwave. Put the unwrapped candies in a microwave-safe bowl, toss in a tablespoon of water, and microwave for 30 seconds at a time. Stir after each round, and continue this until the candy is smooth (usually after 2-3 minutes).
05 - Once the candy’s melted, quickly dunk each apple into it. Tilt the bowl or pan as needed, and rotate the apple to get an even coating. Let the extra candy drip off before setting it down.
06 - If you’re adding sprinkles, glitter, or other decorations, do it right after dipping while the candy layer is still wet so everything sticks well.
07 - Place the coated apples on your prepared tray. Let them cool completely—this takes about 30 minutes in a cool spot or 15 minutes in the fridge.
08 - When the candy has fully hardened, the apples are good to go. If you’re not eating them right away, keep them sealed in a container at room temp for up to three days.

# Helpful Notes:

01 - Tart apples, like Granny Smith, taste great because they balance the sugary candy shell.
02 - A 13 oz bag of Jolly Ranchers can coat about 3 or 4 apples, depending on their size.
03 - Each Jolly Rancher flavor gives you a unique color: cherry is red, apple is green, blue raspberry for blue, and so on.
04 - For the nicest results, let your apples reach room temp and make sure they’re fully dry before you start dipping them.
