Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice. Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese over the buttered side and press gently so it adheres. Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.

Place one slice of bread (buttered side down) in the skillet. Add a slice of mozzarella cheese, a layer of shredded chicken, a spoonful of marinara sauce, and another slice of mozzarella cheese. Place a second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing up.

Cook for 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the sandwich and toast the other side for another 3-4 minutes. Reduce heat if the bread browns too quickly. Press gently with a spatula to ensure the cheese melts evenly and binds the sandwich.
