Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and let it heat up. Either grease your 9x13-inch dish or line it with parchment paper.

In a large pan, cook the ground meat and onion until browned. Drain the grease, then mix in the sauce and seasonings. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes.

Pour the meat sauce evenly into your prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella over it. Arrange the tater tots in a single layer on top.

Pop it in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots turn golden brown and crispy.

Add the leftover mozzarella and, if using, pepperoni. Bake for 5 more minutes, just until the cheese is melted. For extra flavor, sprinkle Parmesan before serving.
