Classic Two-Meat Sauce (Print Version)

A deep-flavored tomato sauce with sausage, beef, and a medley of tomatoes. Simmer it slowly – it's worth every bite!

# Ingredients:

→ Meats

01 - 1 pound lean ground beef
02 - 1 pound spicy Italian sausage

→ Vegetables & Herbs

03 - 5 minced garlic cloves
04 - 1 large diced sweet onion
05 - 1/3 cup freshly chopped parsley

→ Tomato Base

06 - 15 ounces of fire-roasted diced tomatoes
07 - 28 ounces of crushed tomatoes
08 - 12 ounces of tomato paste
09 - 1/2 cup of beef or chicken broth

→ Seasonings

10 - 1 teaspoon coarse salt
11 - 2 teaspoons dried Italian herb mix
12 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
13 - 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar

# Steps:

01 - In a big pot on medium-high, cook the ground beef and sausage. Break it apart as it cooks, then toss in the onions and garlic. Keep cooking until the meats are browned. Get rid of any extra grease.
02 - Turn the heat down to medium. Mix in the parsley, sugar, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and dried herbs. Stir everything completely.
03 - Pour in the crushed tomatoes, roasted diced tomatoes, and broth. Stir it around to combine well.
04 - Get the mixture to a light simmer. Lower the heat and let it cook gently for at least an hour—or even better, leave it for 3-4 hours to really bring out the flavors.

# Helpful Notes:

01 - A pinch of sugar cuts down the sharpness of tomatoes.
02 - Cooking it longer makes the flavors richer.
